Poughkeepsie, New York –City of Poughkeepsie Police Chief Tom Pape, Mayor Rob Rolison and New York State Senator Sue Serino announced the “roll-out” of 4 new marked vehicles and one unmarked vehicle to the Poughkeepsie Police Department fleet. The vehicles were purchased in part by a grant obtained through the Department of Criminal Justice Services and secured by Senator Serino.
“We are very grateful for the assistance Senator Serino has provided to us in purchasing the outfitting these 4 brand new vehicles,” said Mayor Rolison. “These 2017 AWD Ford Explorers will be the first new cars we have put into service since 2015.”
“We are extremely grateful to Senator Serino for making the purchase of these vehicles possible. It is very important to have the proper tools for the officers to do their job efficiently and safely,” said Chief Pape. “A patrol vehicle is the Officers “office” for eight hours. That “office” needs to be safe, reliable and comfortable. Senator Serino has provided us the necessary funding to supply our Police Officers the tools to get the job done.”
“Our local law enforcement goes above and beyond to keep our community safe, and I am proud to have the opportunity to help deliver funding that will provide them with additional resources they need to perform their critical duties,” said Senator Serino. “City Police spend countless hours in their patrol vehicles in order to advance public safety and outfitting the City’s police force with these safe, dependable vehicles is one small way we can help those who have chosen to dedicate their lives to helping us.”
The grant secured by Serino totaled $30,000 and was provided through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program.
