WINGDALE, NY—Senator Sue Serino (R, C, I—Hyde Park) joined Mental Health America’s Vet2Vet program on Sunday, October 15th to honor local veterans at an appreciation pasta dinner at the American Legion Post 1949 in Wingdale. Veterans and their guests made up the crowd of over 100 between the two available seating times.
“These annual events aim to connect our local veterans with both critical resources and one another,” said Senator Sue Serino who has been helping to coordinate the events twice per year since taking office. “We are working to remind our veterans—and their families—that they always have an incredibly grateful community behind them and I look forward to serving them again at our next dinner in Wappingers Falls on November 12th.”
A second appreciation dinner will be held Veterans Day Weekend, on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the Knights of Columbus in Wappingers Falls (2660 East Main Street; Wappingers Falls 12590). The event will again be free to local veterans and a guest. Veterans should call Senator Serino’s Hyde Park Office at 845-229-0106 to RSVP on or before November 8th.
The events are funded through the Dutchess County Vet2Vet program, a program established locally after Senator Serino successfully secured funding in the state budget through the state’s Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Program. Each dinner helps to highlight the program’s important work and the resources available locally to veterans who may be suffering from PTSD, TBI, addiction or mental health issues, so that they can help to spread the word and connect veterans in need of services. Non-perishable food items were also collected at the event and will be donated to Castle Point Veterans Food Bank, Carmine Romeo of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Department performed for the veterans, and door prizes were donated by Olive Garden, Coppola's, Double-O Grill, Outback, and Carmine Romeo.
