NINA LYNCH NAMED SENATE ‘WOMAN OF DISTINCTION’

ALBANY, NY—At a recent ceremony in Albany, Senator Sue Serino (R, C, I—Hyde Park) named Nina Lynch—a local aging advocate and prolific community volunteer—a New York State Senate ‘Woman of Distinction.’

“A founding member of countless local organizations and programs, Nina Lynch has left an indelible mark on our community,” said Senator Sue Serino. “She has redefined the way we think about aging here locally, and has taken the initiative to not only join various community groups, but to fill gaps in service by helping to start critical organizations like Meals on Wheels of Greater Hyde Park and Rhinebeck At Home.”

The State Senate’s ‘Woman of Distinction’ event celebrates women from across New York who contributed significantly to the quality of life of those living within and beyond their communities.

According to her biography provided for the event, Lynch moved to Dutchess County in 1963 where her work with the League of Women Voters showed her the value of education, collaboration and thoughtful action for community problem-solving. Through a leadership role in the Friends in Service Helping (FISH) Lynch, recognized that she could harness the power of volunteer service to meet critical community needs and has fully utilized her unique skill set to do just that ever since.

Lynch played a critical role in starting the Greater Hyde Park Meals on Wheels, which is now in its 40^th year of providing meals to individuals throughout the local community.

With a professional resume that includes time spent as the Coordinator for Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers Program and the Dutchess County Office for the Aging, Nina retired in 2011 after almost two decades spent providing critical services as an Aging Information Services Specialist.

Nina has remained active on numerous community boards and went on to become a founding member and President of ‘Rhinebeck at Home,’ a membership organization that leverages the idea of ‘neighbors helping neighbors’ to empower seniors throughout Rhinebeck to age in place, at home in the community.

Currently, Nina serves as a member of the Town of Rhinebeck Committee on Aging, the Rhinebeck Affordable and Open Space Housing Committee, the Lifetime Learning Institute at Bard College, the New York State Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP), and Senator Serino’s local Aging Advisory Board.

“The list of Nina’s accomplishments is extensive,” Serino continued. “A ‘Woman of Distinction’ in every sense, Nina’s intellect, drive and compassion for others sets her apart, and I am grateful that she continues to share her passion for service with our community. It is my absolute honor to have the opportunity to give her the recognition she deserves for all that she has done to help our neighbors age with dignity.”
