Go Outside and Play: Murphy's Grant helps Matthew Patterson Elementary School Purchase New Playground Equipment
November 13, 2017
Paterson, NY - The Matthew Paterson Elementary School (MPES) in Paterson is now fully equipped to take on the playtime challenges of its most rambunctious students. Thanks to a $16,000 grant from Senator Terrence Murphy, MPES recently purchased new playground equipment that will help keep the students fit and happy for many years to come.
Senator Murphy was on hand on November 9th for the ribbon cutting ceremony that unveiled the new state-of-the-art equipment. What made the day so special for the students was that each grade had its own ribbon ceremony prior to using the new equipment the first time. The seven new pieces of equipment include a zip line and jungle gym as well as individual pieces.
"It is a pleasure to come here today to see so many smiling faces," said Senator Murphy. "Physical fitness is not only a key element in a child developing a healthy body; it can also help stimulate the mind. With the addition of this new equipment, students will have more opportunities to play, be creative, and learn how to work together."
MPES is one of three elementary schools in the Carmel Central School District. It serves a student population of approximately 500 students from kindergarten to 4th grade. MPES has been praised for its balanced curriculum that inspires students to embrace their individuality, pursue their passions, and feed their desire to learn. The students eagerly follow the school's credo: "Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Communication, Citizenship, Compassion and Creativity."
