Murphy, Furnace Woods' students, bring love to Montrose vets
February 10, 2017
CORTLANDT, NY - Senator Terrence Murphy and the students at Furnace Woods Elementary School in Cortlandt know that just because a person has been in a war, that doesn't mean they can't feel love. In recognition of National Salute to Veterans Patients Week, the 4th and 5th grade students at Furnace Woods developed "Valentines 4 Vets," an imaginative and thoughtful way of saluting our veterans. The students created their own Valentine's Day Cards for the veterans at the FDR Veterans Hospital and New York State Veterans Home in Montrose. Senator Murphy played the role of Cupid, gladly delivering the cards to the appreciative veterans.
"We owe a debt of gratitude to those individuals who have worn the uniform and protected our nation," said Senator Murphy "Veterans always appreciate heartfelt recognition of their service. I encourage everyone to visit the veterans in Montrose or their nearest veterans' home to say 'thank you' to these brave men and women."
National Salute to Veterans Patients Week is celebrated February 11th through February 20th. Individuals and families are encouraged to pay tribute and express appreciation to veterans, increase community awareness of the role of VA medical centers, and encourage citizens to visit hospitalized veterans and become involved as volunteers.
