Senator Murphy: Lowe's will help Yorktown reach new economic heights
October 20, 2017
Yorktown, NY - Nine years in the making, Lowe's is finally coming to Yorktown. Senator Terrence Murphy, who championed the project when he was a Yorktown Councilman, joined a buoyant group of dignitaries on October 19th as they broke ground for a new Lowe's store at 3200 Crompond Road.
"This is a great day for the Town of Yorktown and this is a great day for New York State. It was said that this would never happen and look where we are today," said Senator Terrence Murphy. "We cannot thank Breslin Reality enough for the expertise that they bring to this project, and most importantly, for their friendship. They are truly invested in seeing Lowe's come to Yorktown."
Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino said, "We are all excited about having Lowe's come to Westchester County. This is a wonderful spot for it. Terrence Murphy, Supervisor Grace and the Town Board understand the importance of this project and what it could mean in terms of economic development. It will create jobs that will in turn encourage more people to shop in the area."
"Welcome to Yorktown for a day that has been years in the making. This is physical proof that we are moving Yorktown forward," said Yorktown Town Supervisor Michael Grace. "We are cutting through the red tape to get shovels in the ground for great projects like this one. This groundbreaking will have a significant effect on Yorktown's future and the future of Westchester County as well."
Eric DiBartolo, President of the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce said, "The Chamber of Commerce is very excited to have this project come to Yorktown. We have never seen a project of this magnitude. Projects like this can be successful only when government, business and the community work together."
The project, by Breslin Realty Development Corp., is set to include three other buildings, which could potentially include two restaurants and a bank. Wilbur Breslin, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board for Breslin, praised the tenacity of Senator Murphy and Yorktown Town Supervisor Michael Grace in making the project a reality.
"It's required a lot of patience, as do all my projects, but it's been worth the wait for the residents of the region to have a great home improvement store on the property that has become an eye sore for many years," Breslin said in a released statement.
Among the many guests in attendance were Westchester County Legislator John Testa; Michael Kapolowitz, Chairman of the Westchester County Board of Legislators; Assemblyman Kevin Byrne; Yorktown Town Councilmen Gregory Bernard, Thomas Diana, and Vishnu Patel; Robert Noble, Yorktown Chief of Police; Yorktown Justices Hon. Salvatore A. Lagonia and Hon. Gary J. Raniolo; Dave Yorktown Highway Superintendent Dave Paganelli, and Deb Milone, Executive Director at Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce.
According to project planners Ferrandino & Associates Inc., the proposed project (including the Lowe's, two restaurants and a bank) is expected to create approximately 380 temporary full-time equivalent (FTE) construction. Once fully operational, the project is expected to create approximately 150-180 permanent jobs.
