Senator Murphy's second $500k grant will help Mt Pleasant downtown area look like a million bucks

Hawthorne, NY - The streets in Hawthorne were alive with the sound of music and laughter this past Sunday as hundreds of jubilant residents gathered to celebrate the 4th Annual Mt. Pleasant Day Street Fair and Car Show. An honored guest, Senator Terrence Murphy added to the celebratory mood by presenting Mt. Pleasant Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi with a check for $500,000. The funds will go toward the revitalization of Hawthorne's downtown business district. Coupled with last year's $500,000 grant, Senator Murphy has obtained $1 million for the project, demonstrating his commitment to the people of Mt. Pleasant.
 
"It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Westchester County Legislator Cunzio, Supervisor Fulgenzi, and the Mount Pleasant Town Board to help turn this dream into a reality," said Senator Murphy. "This million dollar investment demonstrates our commitment to the revitalization of the downtown Mount Pleasant business district.  Supervisor Fulgenzi has a crystal clear vision for the town's future and has tremendous people working with him that will help bring this project to fruition."
 
Westchester Legislator Margaret Cunzio said, "The Fourth Annual Mt. Pleasant Day was a wonderful event.  It is always a pleasure to support the local businesses and our volunteer services in the town of Mt. Pleasant, and the Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce does an excellent job to help promote them.  I am fortunate to live in this wonderful community."

We want to be able to create a better and more economically viable future for businesses in our downtown area and this grant will go a long way toward accomplishing that goal," said Mt. Pleasant Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi. "I am pleased to have accepted this check on behalf of the people of Mount Pleasant. It reflects the confidence Senator Murphy has in our vision to revitalize our downtown area and make it a primary destination for living, leisure and business."
 
Mt. Pleasant Councilwoman Laurie Rogers Smalley said, "Sunday was a true reflection of how vibrant a community Mt. Pleasant is and how much our residents care and enjoy living here. As a sitting Councilwoman, I was able to interact with many of the residents while at the Mt. Pleasant Moving Forward tent. I was so impressed with the recommendations that residents made regarding our plans to revitalization the Hawthorne - Thornwood corridor as well as bring improvements to the hamlet of Valhalla.  There were lots of creative ideas presented and plenty of enthusiasm for Mount Pleasant's future! Being present for the entire day meant I interacted with hundreds of people. I believe that is my responsibility as a Town Board member because communicating face to face is the best way to understand what the residents want and need. Mt. Pleasant Day was a tremendous success in doing just that!"
 
The Mt. Pleasant Day Street Fair and Car Show has been a community favorite since 2014. This year's celebration was sponsored by the Hawthorne Fire Department and Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce. The celebration featured vendors and volunteers representing local restaurants, delicatessens and businesses, plus live music, rides for children and a classic car show.
