Albany, NY— During this week’s session, Senator Toby Ann Stavisky and Senator Daniel Squadron passed a resolution this week commemorating the upcoming Lunar New Year. The document, recognizing January 28 as the start of the Year of the Rooster was passed unanimously. The rooster is considered to be in charge of the light and is symbolic of hard work and diligence

“Being born in the Year of the Rooster is a very important sign of intelligence, honesty, ambition and we hope that this will symbolize 2017,” Senator Stavisky said to her colleagues.

The 16th Senate District, represented by Senator Stavisky, is home to an annual Lunar New Year Parade in Downtown Flushing, which organizers said will be attended by 10,000 people this year. The senator was also the sponsor of the Lunar New Year Bill, which gives students a day off from school in honor of the new year celebrations.
