Senator Avella and Civics Sends Letter to Mayor Regarding New Noise Policy

Queens, NY – Yesterday, Senator Tony Avella and local civic associations sent a letter to Mayor de Blasio and Police Commissioner O’Neill to express their displeasure with the new NYPD policy of not allowing police officers to enter the premises of a noise complaint unless invited in by the resident/party host.

Creedmoor Civic Association, Northwest Bayside Civic Association, Bay Terrace Community Alliance, Queens Colony Civic Association, and Bellerose Commonwealth Civic Association all signed on to the letter accusing the new policy of being “another example of how the quality of life is rapidly declining in the City of New York.”

“Everyone is entitled to a celebration and a good time this summer but when it gets rowdy to the point that police have to be called, it clearly needs to be shut down. Allowing bothersome and loud neighbors to simply shoo away the police compromises the relationship between communities and police. This policy shows that the Mayor clearly has no consideration for the job that police officers have to do and that he definitely doesn’t care to have a city where people can enjoy a quality of life in their own homes,” said Senator Avella.

The letter concluded with the Senator and the Civics telling the Mayor, “this policy should be revoked immediately.”
