Senator Avella Calls out de Blasio and Police Commissioner for City’s New Ridiculous Noise Policy

Queens, NY – Today, Senator Tony Avella sent a letter to Mayor de Blasio and Police Commissioner O’Neill to express his displeasure with their newly announced policy that will hamstring police officers by not allowing them to enter the premises of a noise complaint unless invited in by the resident/party host.

In the letter, Senator Avella asks, “if a neighbor can make a complaint against a noisy neighbor but the police have no ability to enforce the regulation, why allow residents to make noise complaints in the first place?  This policy prevents police officers from doing their jobs and undermines the integrity of the NYPD by allowing noisy residents to simply say, ‘go away.’”

Avella added, “This is yet another example of how the quality of life is rapidly declining in the City of New York and yet another example of Mayor de Blasio’s anti police – anti neighborhood philosophy.”

“Everyone is entitled to a celebration and a good time this summer but when it gets rowdy to the point that police have to be called it clearly needs to be shut down. Allowing bothersome and loud neighbors to simply shoo away the police compromises the relationship between communities and police. This policy shows that the Mayor clearly has no consideration for the job that police officers have to do and that he definitely doesn’t care to have a city where people can enjoy a quality of life in their own homes,” said Senator Avella.

“This absurd policy should be revoked immediately,” Avella concluded.
