Two Queens Intersections Receive All-Way Stops After Requests from Senator Avella, Residents

Queens, NY – Senator Tony Avella was informed by the Department of Transportation (DOT) this week that all-way stops have been installed at to two Queens intersections this month in response to letters he wrote on behalf of constituents asking for additional traffic controls.

The locations of the new all-way stops are the intersection of Smedley Street and Coolidge Avenue and the intersection of 263^rd Street and Williston Avenue. The request for the 263^rd Street site was first made in August 2016 and the Coolidge Avenue site was requested in November 2015.

Alexandra Karas, the constituent who requested the additional traffic controls at the Coolidge Avenue intersection said, “I am very satisfied that my request for a safer street was answered.” 

“I’m happy to report that DOT has informed me that the community’s calls for additional traffic controls at these two locations have finally been improved. The addition of an all-way stop at these intersections will go a long way in improving traffic safety in our neighborhoods. I am glad that I was able to help two Queens neighborhoods secure this extra safety measure,” said Senator Avella.
