Whitestone to Receive New All Way Stop
October 3, 2017
Queens, NY – This week, State Senator Tony Avella received correspondence from the Department of Transportation (DOT) informing him that, at his request, the intersection of 162nd Street and 12th Road is slated to receive an All-Way stop.
The need for the All-Way stop was first brought to the Senator’s attention in July by a constituent who held onto one of Senator Avella’s famous Civic Action Checklists from his days as a New York City Councilman. The submission of the eleven-year-old checklist led Senator Avella to contact DOT who conducted a study of the location in August.
DOT officials told Senator Avella to expect the All-Way stop to be installed by the end of October.
“I’m happy to report that DOT has informed me that the community’s calls for additional traffic controls at this well trafficked location has been answered. The addition of an All-Way stop at this intersection will go a long way in improving traffic safety in the community. I am glad that I was able to help Whitestone residents secure this extra safety measure,” said Senator Avella.
