Senator Bill Larkin (R-C-I, Cornwall-On-Hudson) announced today that the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will install a traffic signal at the intersection of Route 94 and Jackson Avenue in the Town of Cornwall.
“I want to thank Senator Larkin for his leadership and effort helping to make this happen,” said New Windsor resident Erin Talarico. “This will truly make a difference and potentially save lives moving forward. We look forward to this traffic signal being installed as soon as possible.” Erin Talarico was born and raised in the Town of Cornwall and is currently a resident of the Town of New Windsor. In the summer of 2016, she was involved in a traffic accident at this intersection. Shortly thereafter, she spearheaded a campaign for a traffic signal at this location. Through her efforts, her petition received over 1,000 signatures from residents throughout Orange County including: Cornwall, New Windsor, Blooming Gove, Montgomery, Monroe, Woodbury and Newburgh.
“Local residents like Erin Talarico make a meaningful difference in our community every day,” said Senator Bill Larkin. “During my time as a Senator, some of the most significant accomplishments I have been a part of are those that have a long lasting impact on our community and begin with a concerned resident reaching out to my office.”
Last year, during the time Erin Talarico was obtaining signatures for her petition, Senator Larkin brought local Cornwall leaders and representatives of NYSDOT to the table to make sure this intersection received appropriate attention.
“When there is an issue facing our community I believe in putting all of the stakeholders in one place, sitting down at a table and doing the work of the people,” continued Senator Larkin. “This is a very dangerous intersection and I am happy that our combined efforts have led to a positive result for our community that will improve public safety not just for the Town of Cornwall but several other neighboring Towns as well.”
NYSDOT will be in touch with local officials to determine when the signal will be installed.
