Senator Larkin Presents $150,000 Check To Construct Outdoor Amphitheater In Downtown Chester
May 18, 2017
Senator Bill Larkin (R-C-I, 39th Senate District) presented a $150,000 check this morning to the Village of Chester that will be used to construct an outdoor amphitheater off of Main Street in downtown Chester. The amphitheater will be the focal point of a plan for downtown revitalization and economic development that was recently adopted by the Village of Chester Board of Trustees.
“The Jarvis R. Boone Memorial Amphitheater will be located at Larkin’s Green Park,” said Village of Chester Mayor Tom Bell as he pointed behind him toward an empty lot filled with green grass. “The Village Board unanimously decided to name this park after Senator Larkin for his years of service to our community. Without this grant from Senator Larkin, our dream of revitalizing our downtown would have stayed just that, a dream. This project will bring in people from all over the Hudson Valley and we believe it will bring Chester’s downtown back, creating a more vibrant feeling and improving the overall quality of life for our residents.”
“I remember coming to Chester and working together with Mayor Tom Bell when he was Chester Superintendent of Highways,” said Senator Bill Larkin. “Now, I am proud to work with him as Mayor as he continues to develop and implement plans for community and economic development. It takes cooperation and teamwork to turn dreams into reality and I was happy to play a small part in working with this amazing Village to make this dream come true.”
Larkin’s Green Park will feature the Village of Chester’s annual music festival and attract music and entertainment acts when the project comes to completion. Hosting a seasonal music series and festivals will be one component of a greater plan to attract new businesses and people to live, work and visit the Village of Chester.
This $150,000 grant is through the State and Municipal Facilities Program (SAM) and will be administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY).
