Senator Bill Larkin (R-C-I, 39th District) presented a check for $200,000 to Mary Lou Carolan, Director of the Cornwall Public Library for the purpose of funding the replacement of the Library roof. A crowd of around 30 people including members of the Friends of Cornwall Library, Cornwall Supervisor Richard Randazzo, library staff, children and parents joined Mary Lou in thanking the Senator for his ongoing contributions to the Library.
“Senator Bill Larkin isn’t just a champion for local libraries, he is THE champion for all libraries,” said Mary Lou Carolan. “Whenever we have had a concern that needed his support he has been there for us and we are forever grateful that in one of our most important times of need he was able to come through once again. By solidifying the funds needed to complete this roof replacement project, Senator Larkin has ensured that our Library will not have to cut important educational programs or staff to make sure our infrastructure remains strong.”
“As a young man I was given a new book once a week and I was taught to read so that I could retain knowledge that would one day change my life,” said Senator Bill Larkin. “Libraries are a special part of our community that help to shape the lives of individuals of all ages. This roof replacement project will allow the Cornwall Library to focus on what it should be focused on, developing and maintaining essential programming.”
As part of today’s check presentation, the Cornwall Public Library presented Senator Larkin with an iron plaque that will be placed at the entrance of the Library for all to see. The sign reads, “With honor and gratitude for your generous support.”
Sasha Cuthbert, a local Cornwall student, also presented Senator Larkin with a drawing she made titled, “The Library Rocks.”
“I will hang this drawing in my district office,” said Senator Bill Larkin. “Libraries are here to support and educate our children. Children like Sasha and her passion for learning is what our efforts are all about.”
This $200,000 grant is through the State and Municipal Facilities Program (SAM) and will be administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY).
