Senator Larkin Presents $90,000 Check To Village of Haverstraw Fire Department
July 14, 2017
Senator Bill Larkin (R-C-I, 39th District) presented a $90,000 check today to the Village of Haverstraw Fire Department for the purpose of installing exhaust systems and upgrading a fire whistle to include voice capabilities.
“These important upgrades and infrastructure improvements will be important for the Village of Haverstraw Fire Department as they provide services to local residents,” said Senator Bill Larkin. “Fire departments don’t always have the funding to keep up with changing technology and our hope is that this funding will allow them to maximize their daily activities while preventing long term health issues in the process.”
“The new technology we plan to purchase for our fire whistle will allow us to have voice capabilities during emergencies,” said Village of Haverstraw Mayor Michael Kohut. “This will be an important service to inform our residents in real time of public safety concerns that we are currently planning for. This technology will also help to quickly address those concerns we cannot predict that come without warning.”
“The purchasing of diesel exhaust systems for all three of our fire houses is a necessary improvement that will help to prevent potential respiratory illnesses for firefighters,” said Village of Haverstraw Fire Chief Tom Price. “This costly infrastructure improvement is something that will both protect our current firefighters and help us to recruit the best because they know we care deeply about their long term health.”
“Senator Larkin continues to deliver for the Town of Haverstraw and its incorporated Villages,” said Town of Haverstraw Supervisor Howard Phillips. “Today, Senator Larkin has displayed once again that he does not care whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, he just cares about serving our community and helping people.”
This funding is through the State and Municipal Facilities Program (SAM) and will be administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY).
