NEW YORK- Senator Brad Hoylman (D/ WF- Manhattan) earned the highest possible score of 100% from the New York League of Conservation Voters (NYCLV) in their annual legislative scorecard , which assesses the votes taken by lawmakers on environmental issues.
Legislators were ranked based on their votes on 13 key bills or co-sponsorship of measures that didn’t pass or failed to make it to the floor. Senator Hoylman co-sponsored or voted in favor of all 13 measures, including bills to prohibit offshore drilling, protect vulnerable marine life from overfishing, institute farmland preservation, and adopt common-sense water-saving standards.
Hoylman is the sponsor of (S7760) along with Senator Liz Krueger, which would ban plastic carryout bags and place a ten-cent fee on all other carryout bags in New York state.
Two measures supported by Holyman were signed into law by the Governor this past year. The Drug Take Back Act (S.9100) will increase the safe disposal of prescription medication to protect New York’s waterways. The Farmland Preservation Act (S.7859) provides young and environmentally-conscious farmers with opportunities to purchase farmland at reduced costs, thus ensuring a more progressive future for New York’s agricultural sector.
Senator Brad Hoylman said: “The federal government has launched an attack on New York’s environment and public health. To protect the safety of our children and grandchildren, it's up to us to leave our environment in better shape than we inherited it. As a state legislator I am fully committed to passing legislation to protect our environment and curb the devastating effects of climate change. I am honored to stand for environmental progress, and thank the New York League of Conservation Voters for their recognition. “
Marcia Bystryn, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters, said, "We proudly commend Senator Brad Hoylman on his perfect score on our State Environmental Scorecard. It is more important than ever that our state legislators fight climate change and protect our natural resources. This score of 100% recognizes Senator Holyman's cooperation with his colleagues on legislation that would improve New York's public and environmental health. We thank Senator Hoylman for all of his work protecting Manhattan and New York State."
