(Albany, NY) -- On Friday, February 16th, Senator Brian Kavanagh joined members of the Chinatown community to celebrate the Year of the Dog. Earlier this week, the Senate adopted Senator Kavanagh’s resolution commemorating Lunar New Year. Video of Senator Kavanagh speaking about the importance of Lunar New Year and acknowledging the important role the Asian American community plays in New York can be found here.
“I join my constituents and New Yorkers from across the state in celebrating Lunar New Year and ringing in the Year of the Dog. The Asian American community is fundamental to the cultural fabric of New York, and it’s an honor to celebrate this important holiday with this community. Those born in Year of the Dog are traditionally thought to be characterized by their honesty, loyalty, friendship, straightforward demeanor, intelligence, and commitment -- qualities that we all can agree are critical in today’s world,” State Senator Brian Kavanagh said. “I’m proud to represent Manhattan’s Chinatown -- the oldest in our city -- and I look forward to marching in the Lunar New Year parade, lighting firecrackers in Roosevelt Park, and enjoying Lion Dances for years to come.”
