Statement from Glick, Kavanagh, Niou on Final Passage of Bill to Include Battery Park City Residents on BPCA Board

(Albany, NY) -- This week the New York State Legislature passed S7284/A8986, which makes technical updates to legislation that requires the Battery Park City Authority Board include at least two residents of Battery Park City. The legislation passed the Assembly on Tuesday and the Senate Wednesday.

In response, Senator Brian Kavanagh and Assemblymembers Deborah Glick and Yuh-Line Niou released the following statement:

“Local representation is the foundation of our system of government, and this bill guarantees Battery Park City residents will have at least two seats at the table.

“This bill represents a compromise between the Assembly, the Senate, and the Governor that ensures residents of Battery Park City will have a formal say in how decisions that affect this community are made. In addition, it adds a sensible list of qualifications that apply to all board members.

“We’d like to thank our colleagues in the Legislature for passing this legislation quickly, and thank Community Board 1 and everyone in the Battery Park City community who advocated for this critical change. Now, we look forward to working to ensure that Battery Park City residents are appointed to the board as quickly as possible.”
