(Hamburg, NY) – New York State Senator Chris Jacobs (60th SD) announced that he has secured $100,000 in state funds to support the construction of a new Multi-Purpose room at Union Pleasant Elementary School. When completed later this year, the state-of-the-art space will be used for a wide variety of needs including teacher training, student learning and community education and collaboration.
“I recognize the importance of school districts having the functional space and tools to better train their teachers,” said Jacobs. “I am very pleased to have been able to secure these funds that will improve the teacher training environment and at the same time increase access to technologically improved space for students and the community at-large.”
The district currently has no training space that can accommodate groups larger than 50 people, limiting their ability to more efficiently train larger groups of teachers, more effectively offer curriculums to a larger population of students, or provide adult learning programs. The funding secured by Jacobs will cover the vast majority of the $125,000 cost to repurpose existing space in the district’s largest elementary school, and equip it with state-of- the-art technology and amenities.
“We are very grateful for Senator Jacobs's commitment to the Hamburg Schools in the form of a $100,000 grant for the construction of our new Multi-Purpose Room at Union Pleasant Elementary School,” said School Superintendent Michael Cornell. “It will be a technology-rich space that supports modern learning for our students, staff and community."
Patrick Wirth is the district’s Technology Integrator, and he said he anticipates that the project will be complete in time for the new school year next fall.
“As the Hamburg Schools continue to invest in learning experiences that inspire students to be critical thinkers, productive communicators and effective collaborators, a purposefully designed modern learning space for students and staff is critically important,” Wirth concluded.
