(Hamburg, NY) – New York State Senator Chris Jacobs (60th SD) announced that he has secured $35,000 in state funds to support the purchase of a new police vehicle to be used by the Hamburg Central School District’s School Resource Officer.
“We have an obligation to provide our schools with the tools they need to maintain a safe and secure learning environment, and that includes the School Resource Officer program,” said Senator Jacobs. “The Hamburg Central School District’s School Resource Officer provides support throughout the school community and this vehicle will enable the officer to provide services more efficiently and effectively.”
The Village of Hamburg Police Department has been an advocate of the School Resource Officer Program and works closely with the school district on the administration of the initiative.
“Our School Resource Officer is critically important to our overall plan to keep safe all who come to our schools to learn, work and visit. We are thankful for the support of Senator Jacobs for the SRO’s new police vehicle,” said Hamburg Central Schools Superintendent Michael Cornell.
“On behalf of the Hamburg Village Police Department, I would like to thank Senator Chris Jacobs and his staff for helping us make a positive difference in our community by securing the funding for a new patrol vehicle that is critical for our School Resource Officer to perform their job,” said Chief Michael Melisz. “Senator Jacobs’ support will go a long way in helping us make the Hamburg School District a safe place where all students can have an enjoyable learning experience.”
The Hamburg Village Board has recognized the value of the school resource officer and approved funding in the Police Department’s budget to support the program.
“The safety and security of all village residents is a top priority, but especially the young folks in our schools,” said Mayor Thomas Moses. “I want to thank Senator Jacobs for his support and look forward to continuing in our partnership with the Hamburg School District.”
