Ossining, NY – Seniors packed the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center in Ossining for the annual Ossining Senior Fair, hosted by Senator David Carlucci and Assemblywoman Sandy Galef. Senator Carlucci along with other elected officials kicked off the event with opening remarks.
“Our Ossining Senior Fair is a one stop shop for seniors to learn about services in our community that hopefully can help them and make their lives a little easier. We have organizations that can help seniors with their utility bills, health care questions, and scam and fraud prevention,” said Senator David Carlucci.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Ossining seniors and their families to preview some of the resources available to them in the community, and to discuss issues such as housing, healthcare and consumer issues,” said Assemblywoman Sandy Galef.
“I am delighted to participate in Senator Carlucci and Assemblywoman Galef’s annual Ossining Senior Fair to discuss the importance of protecting and strengthening Medicare and Social Security benefits to ensure a safe and secure retirement, as well as raising awareness of scams that target seniors,” said Congresswoman Nita Lowey. “As Ranking Member on the House Appropriations Committee, I will continue fighting for benefits seniors have rightfully earned after a lifetime of hard work.”
Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. said, “I was delighted to meet Ossining residents and in particular seniors who continue to make our county their home and make it the vibrant place that it is. Our Special Prosecutions Division works closely with senior advocates to protect our most vulnerable and wants our elderly to know our office is there for them when they have concerns for their safety or fall victims to abuse.”
The Senior Fair was free and open to the public. The event featured at least 20 vendors offering seniors information on a wide range of recreational, health, legal, housing, and financial services. This year, Phelps Memorial Hospital even offered seniors free flu shots.
The fair also had a special guest speaker series, which included experts on health care services, identity theft and scams, and fall prevention.
For residents who were not able to make it to the Senior Fair and have questions about services, they should reach out to Senator Carlucci’s office at (845) 623-3627.
