CHESTNUT RIDGE  – Recently, the Department of State agreed to create a cease-and-desist zone in Chestnut Ridge.

The decision comes after public hearing in September of 2016, which was held by Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) and Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee (D-Suffern).

In a cease-and-desist zone, real estate brokers can no longer solicit residents to sell their homes.

They cannot solicit homeowners by knocking on their doors, calling them by phone or by sending mail, emails, or texts.

If they do, they can face fines of up to $1000 and their license could be suspended or revoked.

Senator Carlucci is encouraging all homeowners to add their names to a cease-and-desist list through the Department of State website so if they are the victim of solicitation the Department of State can take action.

The Department of State will publish the first list on September 1st and begin enforcing the law after Oct. 1st.
