Senator Elaine Phillips, in partnership with the Gold Coast Arts Center, recently hosted a 70th Anniversary of the State of Israel Cultural Celebration to commemorate the country’s storied history and tradition.

“Israel’s vibrant history and culture is deeply rooted in arts, music, culinary arts and literature, and it was an honor to celebrate the country’s outstanding achievements in those fields,” Senator Phillips said. “It was a privilege to hear author Francine Klagsbrun share her remarkable story – thank you for continuing to be an inspiration for generations of women around the world. Thank you, Regina Gil, Michael Glickman and the entire staff of the Gold Coast Arts Center—and a big thank you to PSEG Long Island and Colbeh Restaurant and Steven Kushner for sponsoring and catering the event.”

“Our sincere thanks to Senator Phillips for supporting our celebration of Israel’s 70th anniversary and the rich contributions Israel has made to the world of the arts and history,” said Regina Gil, Founder and Executive Director of the Gold Coast Arts Center. “All those in the community who attended this lively and meaningful event were so pleased to hear Senator Phillips speak personally and movingly about the significance of Israel’s 70th birthday.”

The event featured a Q&A session and a book signing with author Francine Klagsbrun, who discussed her newest book, “Lioness: Golda Meir and the Nation of Israel.” Francine, who has authored more than a dozen books, won Book of the Year from the National Jewish Book Council in 2017.
