Senator Phillips Announces Legislation Changing Date Of State Primary Election To September 13 Passed In State Senate

Senator Elaine Phillips announced today that the New York State Senate has passed legislation, which she co-sponsored, that changes the state’s primary election day to September 13, 2018 for those of observing Rosh Hashanah and the commemoration of the September 11 attacks.

“Voting is one of the most fundamental and important rights we have as citizens, and as elected officials it is our obligation to ensure all New Yorker’s have the opportunity to vote,” Senator Phillips said. “By changing the date of the state primary we are removing potential conflicts which could prevent many New York citizens from their civic right to vote and ensuring that no one has to choose between their religious practices and civic rights.”

The bill (S.7597) changes the date of the fall state primary from Tuesday, September 11, 2018, to Thursday, September 13, 2018.

The bill has passed in the Assembly and will be sent to the Governor.
