Senator Phillips Attends Opening Day At Belmont Park
April 30, 2018
Senator Elaine Phillips recently joined local elected officials, New York Racing Association (NYRA) representatives and track employees at Belmont Park’s 2018 opening day ceremonies.
“For over a century, Belmont has been the stage for many of horseracing’s greatest moments and the park continues to be an important economic engine for our region. Recently published reports indicate that New York State’s equine industry has grown by $1.1 billion and added nearly 10,000 new jobs in just the last six years,” Senator Phillips said. “But Belmont Park isn’t just horse racing. Each year, the New York Racing Association supports not-for-profits in our community including the Belmont Child Care Association, Backstretch Employee Service Team, Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, Winthrop University Hospital Breast Cancer Center, Toys for Tots of Nassau County, and many more. It was an honor to attend the opening ceremonies and with the continued support of race fans here on Long Island and throughout the state, Belmont will undoubtedly see another successful season.”
The 2018 spring/summer meet at Belmont Park is 54 days long and will include the 150th Anniversary of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 9.
