June 5, 2018
Senator Elaine Phillips recently attended the Gold Coast Arts Festival world premiere of “This Business of Autism,” a documentary centered on Spectrum Designs of Port Washington and the economic and societal benefits of employing young adults with autism. Senator Phillips was featured in the film after being interviewed in September.
“As one of the largest employers of individuals with autism in the country, Spectrum Designs is leading a national movement by reinvesting financial returns into the community and filling a societal void,” Senator Phillips said. Thank you to filmmaker Stephen Mackey for highlighting the great work Spectrum does and for shedding light on this important issue, and to Spectrum for continuing to ensure those living with autism have the necessary resources to live a full and able life.”
Spectrum Designs Foundation was founded in 2011 and is a nonprofit organization that helps to break down barriers for individuals with Autism by providing them with vocational training and employment. The foundation operates a fully functioning apparel decorating shop that employs teens and young adults with Autism, giving them work experience in an integrated setting.
