STATEMENT FROM STATE SENATOR GUSTAVO RIVERA ON MAYOR'S SUPPORT OF SINGLE PAYER HEALTHCARE

"I am excited and thankful to receive the support of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for my bill, the New York Health Act. Assemblymember Gottfried and I are working hard to create a healthcare for all system in our great state and the Mayor's support will be very helpful in making this a reality. As the White House and Republicans in Congress relentlessly attack our right to healthcare and dismantle the Affordable Care Act, it is urgent that New York lead by example. Passing the New York Health Act is imperative to ensuring the viability of our public and safety net hospitals, enabling every person to receive healthcare no matter their wealth or status, and making New York the healthiest state to live in. I thank Mayor de Blasio for joining this fight and I look forward to working together to make healthcare a right and not a privilege in New York State."
