Senator Jim Tedisco today announced that he has presented the New York State Senate Liberty Medal, the Senate’s highest award for service to the Honorable Barry Kramer, upon the occasion of his retirement as Schenectady County Supreme Court Justice.

“Judge Kramer has had a long and distinguished legal career and has served the people of Schenectady and our state with patience, fairness and respect. Of course, many people also know and love Barry for his incredible athletic prowess on the basketball court. Without question, Barry Kramer is one of the greatest basketball players ever to come out of Schenectady I've been proud to know Barry for many years and delighted to call him my friend,” said Senator Tedisco.

Judge Kramer played for Linton High School, where he was named a first-team All-American player. After high school, Kramer played for New York University as a guard and forward and was a college All-American, and the second leading scorer in the nation in Division One college basketball in 1963.

Judge Kramer then became the first-round draft choice in the NBA of the San Francisco Warriors (now the Golden State Warriors) and later played guard for the Knicks.

After playing in the NBA, Kramer went to Albany Law School and began his legal career in public service.
