“I thought it was an April Fool’s joke when I first read that the Governor is planning for the early release of convicted felons in our state prison system due to understaffing – a dangerous situation she created when she refused to provide our correction officers with safe working conditions and then fired more than 2,000 of them.”
“In the litany of dumb ideas I’ve seen over the years, this one takes the cake as it’s a recipe for disaster for public safety.”
“And what an insult to crime victims by chopping 110 days off the sentences for these inmates. Can the Governor give 110 days of stress-free living to the victims whose lives were forever altered by these criminals?”
“What on Earth is this Governor doing? We don’t have an on-time state budget so she’s clearly not appropriately focusing on getting that part of her job done.”
“She refuses to negotiate in good faith with our correction officers and provide for their safety as she’s mobilized the National Guard and put their lives at risk to do a job they’re not trained to do.”
“My message to the Governor is clear: get back to the bargaining table, re-hire our correction officers and keep the convicts in prison where they belong!”
