Veterans at the St. Albans Community Living Center in St. Albans, Queens got a very special surprise when State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. visited them on Friday, February 16, to hand out Valentine’s Day cards made for them by local students.
The children at P.S. 88 in Ridgewood and P.S. 63 in Ozone Park crafted handmade Valentine’s Day cards for the veterans, thanking them for their service and for protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day.
“It really is such a great feeling to see the veterans’ faces as they read the cards the students made for them. They truly appreciate it,” Addabbo said. “I try to impart on the children that some of these veterans don’t have any family to celebrate holidays like Valentine’s Day with, and that their cards really make a difference to them. It is an honor to be able to deliver the cards and spread some happiness and love for Valentine’s Day.”
