Sen. Griffo: Funding will enhance public safety, help with building repairs in Rome
July 30, 2018
ROME – State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-I-C-Rome, announced today that he has secured $450,000 in funding for several projects in Rome.
The funding will be broken down as follows:
* $250,000 for capital improvements at the Rome train station, which suffered severe damage when the ceiling collapsed earlier this month. The funding will allow the city to move forward with building a temporary secure pedestrian walkway in the pedestrian tunnel area so that passenger service can resume.
* $100,000 for pole cameras for the Rome Police Department. The department has had success with capturing suspects who have been identified through the use of pole cameras. The funding will allow the city to purchase at least 10 more cameras that will be deployed at various sites throughout the city, allowing for enhanced detection and identification of perpetrators.
* $50,000 for capital improvements at the Rome Animal Control/Rome Fire Department Hazmat Storage Facility at 725 Black River Boulevard. The funding, along with city funds already allocated to rehabilitate the facility, will provide a safer, more secure environment for dogs that are temporarily housed onsite and will protect the city’s hazmat response equipment with a new roof and window replacement, as well as rehabilitating the facility.
* $50,000 for capital improvements related to ongoing electrical issues at the Rome Art and Community Center.
“This funding will help to improve public safety and will support essential repairs to several facilities in Rome,” Sen. Griffo said. “I know that these projects and initiatives will go a long way toward improving the quality of life of Rome residents and those visiting the city.”
“We would like to sincerely thank Sen. Griffo for his continuous efforts to provide funding for capital improvements for municipally owned facilities, as well as his ongoing attention to enhancing the city’s public safety agencies,” said Rome Mayor Jacqueline M. Izzo. “Through this funding, we will be able to make needed upgrades that will benefit all city residents and visitors to our community.”
