Sen. Griffo: Governor’s comment about America disappointing, absurd
August 20, 2018
State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-I-C-Rome, released the following statement today following the Governor saying that America “was never that great" during a speech:
“The Governor’s comments today regarding our nation were unfortunate, disappointing and absurd. I understand that we are in the heat of political season. However, despite his own personal opinion, political differences and future aspirations, the Governor’s words, whether taken out of context or not, were not the appropriate way to describe this country. America has been and continues to be the greatest experiment in democracy. As Thomas Paine once said, ‘Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigues of supporting it.’”
