Sen. Griffo hosting electronics recycling drop-off

UTICA – State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-I-C-Rome, announced today that he is partnering with the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority to hold an electronics recycling event on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The free event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Oneida-Herkimer Recycling Center at 80 Leland Ave. Extension in Utica. The public may drop off electronics such as TVs, computers and other electronics. For a full list of acceptable items, visit www.ohswa.org.

Confidata also will be on hand to shred up to three boxes, per car, of confidential documents and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office will be collecting unused or unwanted prescription medications (no sharps or needles).

Sen. Griffo also is encouraging the public to bring canned goods and other food items to donate to the Rome Rescue Mission and the Rescue Mission of Utica.

“I would like to thank the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority, Confidata and Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office for partnering with us for this event,” Sen. Griffo said. “I have always been impressed by the number of people who have come out to our recycling events to safely dispose of unwanted items such as old televisions and computers or expired medications, and I am proud to see our community being so mindful of protecting the environment."

Previous recycling events hosted by Sen. Griffo have resulted in more than 406,000 lbs. of electronics being recycled.

WHO: State Sen. Joseph Griffo, Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority, Confidata, Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, the Rome Rescue Mission and the Rescue Mission of Utica.

WHAT: The public is invited to drop off electronics like TVs, computers, and other electronics for free and safe disposal; confidential documents to be shredded (up to 3 boxes per vehicle); and old or expired prescription drugs (no sharps or needles). A food drive to benefit the Rome Rescue Mission and the Rescue Mission of Utica also will take place.
