Sen. Griffo secures funding for Celine G. Philibert Cultural Centre and Museum in Massena
April 13, 2018
MASSENA - State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-Rome, announced today that he has secured $150,000 in funding to help the Town of Massena’s Celine G. Philibert Cultural Centre and Museum expand and better house its artifacts and exhibits.
The cultural centre houses the town museum and an exhibit area for art and community displays. During the development of the project, the town realized that the building at 79 Main St. was not large enough and that they would need a 1,000-square-foot expansion to the north side of the building to store the facility’s large artifacts and for some additional storage.
The extra storage space would allow the artifacts to remain in an environment that would preserve the integrity of the items. It also would help to keep the artifacts and exhibits secure and would provide easier access for those who volunteer at the facility.
“The Celine G. Philibert Cultural Centre and Museum is already a tremendous community asset for the Town of Massena and nearby communities,” Sen. Griffo said. “I know that this funding will help the center to grow and to continue to showcase a variety of artifacts, exhibits and other items.”
“The Town of Massena would like to thank Sen. Griffo for his support of our community,” Town of Massena Supervisor Steve O’Shaughnessy said. “He is always there for his constituents in the north country when we need it most. Massena was about to initiate a large fundraising effort for much needed space in the Celine G. Philibert Cultural Centre. When Sen. Griffo learned of our effort, he was able to secure this grant for the addition. We look forward to working with the Senator to enhance Massena’s development.”
