BROOKLYN, NY (5-1-18) – Today, the New York State Senate Democratic Conference released a report highlighting the steady decrease in voting across New York State, and simultaneously introduced a comprehensive legislation package encompassing 10 bills to reverse this trend.

One of the proposed laws, Senate Bill S.3409 - Automatic Voter Registration, is sponsored by State Senator Kevin Parker. If enacted, eligible New Yorkers would be automatically registered to vote at most state or local government agencies unless they affirmatively choose not to do so. “This is not a new problem, but we are leading the charge on increasing voter participation in New York State,” said Senator Parker. “There is no downside to making it easier for people to perform their civic duty, and with the Governor recently re-enfranchising parolees by restoring their right to vote, the Senate Democratic Conference proposals unveiled today builds upon the through comprehensive legislation that will protect voters while improving the electoral experience,” said Senator Parker.
