BROOKLYN, NY (2/5/18) – On Saturday, February 3rd State Senator Kevin Parker and Governor Andrew Cuomo held an Emergency Preparedness Workshop at the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. In conjunction with the New York State Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services, the community event taught residents various safety tips and precautions to take in the occurrence of a natural disaster or fire. Each attendee received a certificate of course completion, and a “safety “bag for their home.

“I applaud the Governor and the Division of Homeland Security for their commitment to ensuring that all New Yorkers have unfettered access to the resources and information that will keep them safe. With global warming and the subsequent erratic weather patterns and natural disasters we see today, it is important that New Yorkers have what they need in case Mother Nature bears down on us again as she did with hurricane Sandy,” said Senator Kevin Parker.

“We are proud to partner with Senator Parker to host the Emergency Preparedness Workshop as it created an opportunity for residents to learn about what do in an emergency, while simultaneously introducing them to our club and the services we afford to the community,” said Mr. Stan King, Director at Madison Square Boys and Girls Club. “This event was a no-brainer and we thank Senator Parker and the Governor for working to keep our community residents safe.”
