Today I send out my thoughts and prayers to the people of Trinidad & Tobago who have been affected by the unprecedented floods over the weekend. As the State Senator of the 21st District, which represents a large concentration of Caribbean Americans, I stand with my constituents from the twin island republic nation especially those whose families have been directly affected by the floods and are now faced with the subsequent cleanup and restoration efforts after the destruction of this natural disaster.
This historic flooding comes on the heels of another natural disaster in the form of the 5.1 earthquake that rocked the nation in August. With reports of two other quakes hitting the nation in the last two days, it is not surprising that many of its citizens are in despair and overwhelmed. It is important that they know that as an international community we stand with them during these trying times. Moreover, in addition to our prayers and concerns, I urge us all support the tangible humanitarian efforts that are ongoing in making sure that the much needed emergency supplies reach those affected.
