Lefferts Boulevard Bridge Study Bill Passes in State Legislature

Albany, NY — The New York State Senate Wednesday passed Senator Leroy Comrie’s bill directing the MTA Long Island Railroad to conduct a feasibility study of rehabilitating the Lefferts Boulevard bridge in the heart of Kew Gardens, Queens. The Assembly version of the bill, introduced by Assembly Member Daniel Rosenthal, passed the Assembly on Tuesday.

“The Lefferts Boulevard bridge is a gem of our borough and the epicenter of a thriving neighborhood,” said Senator Comrie. “Working in tandem with community stakeholders, Assembly Member Rosenthal and I introduced these corresponding bills to help make sure the LIRR will be held responsible for their mismanagement of the bridge structure. I am pleased we were able to move this through the legislature, and I look forward to pressing forward.”

The future of the Lefferts Boulevard bridge and the livelihoods of the merchants whose businesses are located on the bridge have been in question following decades of neglect from the LIRR.
