Zombie Properties Blight Neighborhoods, But Residents Have Recourse

Who: State Senator Leroy Comrie in partnership with Assembly Members Alicia Hyndman and Clyde Vanel, Council Member I. Daneek Miller, the NYC Department of Buildings, the NYC Department of Health, the NYC Department of Sanitation, and the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development

Where: Hollis Avenue Congregational Church 211-04 Hollis Avenue, Queens Village, NY

Why: Zombie properties, deteriorating vacant homes and lots, are not just eyesores, but also health hazards, and they can be found in virtually every neighborhood across New York City. Southeast Queens, which was hit particularly hard by the housing crisis and recession ten years ago and Hurricane Sandy nearly six years ago, is home to many of these blighted properties. Fortunately, there is recourse for local residents who have been affected by the presence of zombie properties in their neighborhoods. The community is invited to join Senator Comrie, his elected colleagues, and the city agencies charged with containing zombie properties at the Zombie Property Info Session to learn about how community members can help the city make our neighborhoods stronger and safer.
