GENEVA – Senator Pam Helming today announced nearly $7 million in funding to repave and enhance state-owned roadways impacted by extreme weather this past winter. Funding will support four local projects in the 54th Senate District. Senator Helming fought for these local projects in the state budget. It is anticipated that all of the projects will be completed by the end of this year.
“Our families, farms, and local job creating businesses depend on safe, well maintained roads. The impact of this year's harsh winter is clear when you see the potholes and other damage local roadways have sustained. This critical infrastructure investment will make these stretches of road safer, while helping to support our efforts to promote local commerce and tourism. As State Senator, I’ve worked tirelessly to advocate for our region, and to deliver our fair share of local infrastructure funding. I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that we get the funding we need to maintain our roads and keep motorists safe,” said Senator Pam Helming.
Approximately $6.9 million has been awarded for projects to pave state roads in Cayuga, Ontario, Seneca and Wayne Counties, including:
- $2.8 million to address pavement cracking on Route 34 from the Tompkins County line to Venice Center in Cayuga County;
- $1.5 million to resurface Route 245 from Route 247 to Route 14A in Ontario County;
- $1.1 million to resurface Route 89 from Canoga to Route 5 and 20 in Seneca County; and
- $1.5 million to resurface Route 89 from Route 31 to Route 104 in Wayne County.
Additionally, the State Budget included $65 million in Extreme Weather Recovery funds for locally-owned roadways. This funding is supported through the New York State Department of Transportation’s five-year capital plan and is in addition to the hundreds of millions of dollars provided in this year’s budget in direct state aid to local governments for road and bridge repair and modernization.
Senator Helming represents the 54th Senate District, which consists of Seneca and Wayne Counties, parts of Cayuga and Ontario Counties, and the towns of Lansing and Webster. For more information, please visit Senator Helming’s website, or follow @SenatorHelming on Facebook or Twitter.
