WALLINGTON – During a recent Wallington Fire Company meeting, Senator Helming announced that she secured a $200,000 State and Municipalities grant to support improvements to the firehouse. With the grant, the Wallington Fire Company plans to add on three truck bays with drive-through doors to accommodate its six pieces of fire apparatus as well as add storage space for fire gear and an updated dispatch and communications room with office space. Plans also include energy efficiency for the building, a washroom to safely and properly decontaminate fire equipment, and repairs to the parking lot.
“Our volunteer fire departments do an absolutely outstanding job of responding to our emergencies whenever we need them. No matter the time of day or night, our firefighters leave their families, homes, and jobs to be there for us. The Wallington Fire Company is an excellent example of this, and our communities are eternally grateful for these committed, courageous fire responders. However, volunteer fire departments such as Wallington exist on tight budgets that include limited municipal resources, shrinking fundraising dollars, and money that doesn’t go as far as it used to due to rising costs of equipment. Wallington needed outside funding in order to maintain its building and continue its mission to serve and protect the community, and it is a privilege to be able to secure this grant to support the department and help improve the fire house,” Senator Helming said.
