ONTARIO – Senator Pam Helming and Assemblyman Bob Oaks honored four Wayne Central School athletic teams during a recent Board of Education. The varsity cheerleading team won its second-straight New York State Championship during the winter sports season, while the varsity boys basketball team won the Section V Championship also during the winter sports season. The varsity baseball team and the girls track and field team both won the Section V Championship in their respective sports during the spring sports season.
“High school athletic competition does more for our young adults than simply teaching them how to play a sport and giving them the chance to earn achievements. It enhances their moral and physical development by instilling in them the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship, encouraging a standard of healthy living, and preparing them for their future path. It is so important to recognize sports teams that bring home championships because this accomplishment is about much more than winning a trophy or receiving an award. All of these student-athletes represent a bright future for our community, and I am pleased to have the opportunity to honor them along with Assemblyman Oaks,” Senator Helming said.
Assemblyman Oaks said, “It is with great pleasure that I congratulate the student athletes of the Wayne Central School District. Achieving championships in basketball, track and field, baseball, and cheerleading is a major accomplishment and speaks volumes about the hard work and dedication they have committed to their chosen sport. Thank you for making our community proud.”
