GENEVA – Senator Pam Helming today announced that there is funding available through the New York State Council on the Arts and the Preservation League of New York State for nonprofit organizations and local municipalities to support historic preservation projects. The Technical Assistance Grant program offers $3,000 – with a required $500 match from each applicant – to organizations and municipalities that steward historic buildings with an arts or cultural purpose.
“The Wayne-Finger Lakes region is home to many significant historical sites. There are many historical societies and other groups and organizations that joyfully and dutifully take up the task of preserving the historic and cultural heritage of our region. I am grateful that the New York State Council on the Arts and the Preservation League have made this funding opportunity available to them so that they can continue their missions of maintaining our buildings and other significant resources. I encourage any organization or municipality with a project in mind to take advantage of these grants,” Senator Helming said.
Buildings such as libraries, art centers, historical societies, and museums are examples of projects that qualify for this program. The program funds preservation work such as condition surveys, engineering studies, mechanical assessments, and feasibility studies. Interested applicants should call the Preservation League at (518) 462-5658, ext. 10, to discuss their proposal and receive an application. Applications for the fall 2018 round of funding are due by Monday, September 17.
