NEWARK – Senator Pam Helming presented Newark Police Chief David Christler with a New York State Senate Proclamation to honor his more than 40 years of service in law enforcement during his retirement ceremony at the Newark Police Department. A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, Chief Christler started his law enforcement career with the New York State Police and served for 32 years. He rose through the ranks to the position of Colonel, and Superintendent of Administration. In 2008, the Newark Village Board hired him to be the Police Chief, and he retired after 10 years serving the village.
“For more than 40 years, Chief Christler has been dedicated to serving and protecting our community and committed to supporting his officers and the citizens. He has been nothing but a consummate professional and a respected leader, and he certainly leaves a void and big shoes to fill in his place. It has been a pleasure getting to know Chief Christler and working with him on several projects and initiatives, and it was a privilege to recognize his career,” Senator Helming said.
