Senator Helming Recognizes 60th Anniversary of McDonough Park

GENEVA – Senator Pam Helming recently recognized the 60^th anniversary of McDonough Park, the home of the Geneva Red Wings baseball team, during Senator Pam Helming Night. Senator Helming presented a New York State Senate Proclamation honoring the park and the team to Harry Panaro, a member of the 1958 Geneva Red Legs that was the first team to play at McDonough Park. Panaro in turn presented Senator Helming with a plaque featuring a photograph and description of the 1958 team, which played in Minor League Baseball’s New York-Penn League. Senator Helming also honored Bob Ohmann, owner of both the Red Wings and the Pilots, with the New York State Senate Empire Award for his contributions to both communities through baseball and other ventures.

 “What a fantastic evening it was to bring the family or come out with friends and see some terrific baseball action between the Wayne-Finger Lakes region’s two local teams. It is always great to see Bob Ohmann, a man I consider Mr. Baseball in our area for his support of both the sport and the communities his teams call home, and it was also great to meet Harry Panaro and his family. Both men deserve to be saluted for their efforts in making McDonough Park and the Red Wings organization what it is today. It was such a privilege to recognize the 60^th anniversary of McDonough Park as well as honor Bob and Harry for everything they have done. Thank you to everyone who turned out for our second annual Senator Pam Helming Night,” Senator Helming said.
