Senator Helming Secures $700,000 for Water Infrastructure in Canandaigua

GENEVA – Senator Pam Helming today announced that she has secured $700,000 for the Town of Canandaigua to construct a water main and increase water pressure in several areas of the Town and surrounding communities. The request has been sent to the New York State Department of Health, which will administer the funding.

“The families and businesses of the Town of Canandaigua and surrounding communities deserve to know that when they turn on the tap, their water is safe for drinking, bathing, and other uses. Clean water is essential for our communities and our businesses to grow and thrive, and that is why I am proud to support local infrastructure improvements that protect the water supply. This funding will allow the Town to make much-needed upgrades to water lines that supply its property owners as well as neighboring property owners. It will ensure that the residents and businesses of the Canandaigua area will have a safe, reliable water supply to meet all of their needs. I enjoyed working with former Town Supervisor Greg Westbrook and the Town of Canandaigua, and I wish the Town much success on this project,” Senator Helming said.

The Town of Canandaigua’s project will involve the construction of a 12-inch water main on the west side of County Road 10 in the Town that will provide many benefits to residents and property owners along the route. With increased flow comes better services to the residents and businesses, such as improved water pressure to the Ontario County Fairgrounds and improved firefighting capacity. The infrastructure upgrades will also support several neighboring municipalities through the looping of water lines to enhance water pressure flows and decrease pressure on existing facilities. The new water transmission line will also reduce the Town of Canandaigua’s dependency on the Town of Hopewell’s water tank and existing utilities.

Canandaigua Town Manager Doug Finch said, “This public-private partnership project would not be possible without the support and advocacy of Senator Pam Helming on behalf of our residents. Senator Helming’s efforts will allow us to connect this water line to the City of Canandaigua’s existing system, improving efficiency of operations, correcting water pressure for fire protection, and supporting our residents with clean drinkable water.”

Canandaigua Town Water Superintendent Jim Fletcher said, “Our residents are fortunate to have Senator Helming as our representative. We went to her with a need for expanding our current water supply system. She listened, advocated on our behalf, and was able to secure funding. This water main improvement project will strengthen the current water supply system as well as allow for future growth and development in our community.”

Canandaigua City Fire Department Chief Frank Magnera said, “This is great news for the Fire Department as well as a huge benefit for the residents and business owners. This effort will greatly improve Fire Protection, including water pressure, consistency of water flow, and impact on fire hydrants in the area. We certainly appreciate the partnership and continued support that Senator Helming provides. Her hard work and advocacy allow us to better protect the Canandaigua community.”
