Senator Patrick M. Gallivan is praising funding for a $66.4 million infrastructure project on the New York State Thruway in Erie County. The project, now underway, includes road reconstruction, rehabilitation of four Thruway bridges and the replacement of a Thruway bridge on one of the busiest stretches of I-90. More than 130,000 motorists use that portion of the highway every day.
"Maintaining and improving the region’s transportation network is critical to the local economy and our quality of life,” Gallivan said. “These improvements will support businesses here and across the state who depend on the highway for commerce and will help ensure the safety of motorists who use the Thruway to get to work, school and other destinations.”
The project includes reconstruction and rehabilitation of nearly three miles of roadway between exit 54, West Seneca-East Aurora- NY Routes 400 & 16, and the Lackawanna Toll Barrier. Safety upgrades will include new signs, guiderails, shoulder expansion and additional reflective pavement markings to enhance safety.
The project also includes rehabilitation of four Thruway bridges:
- Seneca Street (milepost 428.37)
- Cazenovia Creek (milepost 428.56)
- Potters Road (milepost 428.84)
- Smokes Creek (milepost 429.78)
The Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge (milepost 430.05) will be replaced.
Oakgrove Construction of Elma, NY, was awarded the contract under the Best Value procurement method.
There will be nightly right lane closures on I-90 eastbound between the Lackawanna toll barrier and exit 54 from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. for shoulder and guiderail work, before the main construction begins in June.
Information about traffic patterns will be broadcast on Highway Advisory Radio and displayed on Variable Message Signs.
Construction will be completed in different stages, with the project scheduled to be completed in 2019.
