Senator Gallivan Celebrates Decision to Keep Children's Psychiatric Center in West Seneca

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) is pleased by reports that the Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center will remain open.

“The WNYCPC rates among the top facilities in the country in treating children undergoing significant mental trauma in a safe, tranquil environment that gives them hope.  Our children deserve no less, and I am grateful these services will continue well into the future,” Gallivan said.  “I am encouraged the Governor recognizes this and look forward to working with his administration to ensure the continuity of these services as well as to provide needed community based mental health services to children and families in WNY.”

Over the past several years, former patients, family members of patients, workers, community activists and academics have pushed to keep the WNYCPC open.  They argue the tranquil surrounding provided at the West Seneca campus is important for the children who are undergoing significant mental trauma and the families desperately trying to protect these children from danger.

WNYCPC is currently located in West Seneca.  The state had proposed to merge the facility with the Buffalo Psychiatric Center.
