Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) welcomed members of the color guard from Attica Correctional Facility to Albany and the Senate Chambers on Tuesday, May15, as part of Correctional Officers and Employees Week in New York State. The designation recognizes those employed with city, state and federal correctional departments who work under demanding circumstances.
“As Chair of the Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Corrections, I have visited many correctional facilities across New York and have had the privilege of meeting with hundreds of officers and employees,” Gallivan said. “Every day, these men and women perform demanding, difficult and dangerous jobs that are among the most challenging in all of public safety.”
There are over 60,000 correctional officers and employees in New York State responsible for the care, custody, and security of nearly 80,000 inmates.
Senator Gallivan sponsored a resolution passed by the Senate proclaiming May 6-12, 2018 as Correctional Officers and Employees Week in New York.
